Be careful you don’t get fired for being gay in Louisiana!

Posted by admin on August 22, 2008

Yep, you heard me.  You can be fired in Louisiana, regardless of the good work that you may do at your job, just because you are gay or lesbian.  This kind of stuff just burns me up.  This is the United States of America for Christ Sake!  And this type of shit STILL goes on……..

Who could have been responsible for such a thing in Louisiana?   Here is that person:

Yes folks, you guessed it!  It’s Louisiana’s Governor Bobby Jindal!  I thought you’d get it right away, I mean the pic is really dead on, isn’t it?  Jindal recently said that he would NOT reissue an executive order that would ban discrimination against GLBT people in the workplace.  He stated that such an executive order would be “Unnecessary.”

So be careful gay and lesbian folks in Louisiana, thanks to your Governor you could get fired at your job for no other reason but because of who you LOVE!

Is there anyone in Louisiana that’s faced with this type of discrimination?  or are you seriously worried about this type of discrimination?

GLBT couples in Wisconsin could face CRIMINAL PENALTIES!

Posted by admin on July 6, 2008

Ok soooo I just got back from a fireworks display and prior to the fireworks they had some band singing and spouting all of this religious stuff and talking about how proud we are to be Americans.

Now don’t get me wrong, for the most part, I’m happy about where I live…BUT I find it very hard to be a super, happy American when bullshit like what’s going on WISCONSIN is happening in the United States of America!   Yeah, they tell us to thank the people who fight for our country in the military…..well the truth of the matter is, they are fighting for MOST of America, but they ain’t fighting for US (hell we ain’t even allowed to be in the military if we are gay or lesbian!)  I know, I know you are probably thinking I have a bad attitude….but the truth is that we need to SPEAK UP and quit letting the rest of the world act as if this is the greatest friggin country in the world when our country is so friggin assbackwards it’s not even funny!   I mean seriously…..we have a man running for President (McCain) who doesn’t believe in EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.  What kind of bullshit is that when someone running for PRESIDENT doesn’t even believe that everyone in the state should have the same rights??

Ok ok enough of that…back to Wisconsin.  GLBT couples could face criminal charges if they get married out of state.  Apparently, there is a state law that was created to prohibit underage kids from crossing state lines and marrying and it could be interpreted to apply to gay and lesbian folks as well.

And the penalty??   A $10,000 fine, up to 9 months in prison….OR BOTH!   Unfknbelievable.  WAKE UP AMERICA!

Posted by admin on June 4, 2008

The Human Rights Campaign released a report on Senator John McCain, who unless you live under a rock, you know that he is the Republican candidate that is running for President of the United States.

Remember how I harp on ya’ll how important it is to vote.  Well before you vote it’s super, duper important to do your research and websites like hrc can help you with that.

Check out the page on McCain right here.

Sooo tell me what you think?  Will you be voting for McCain?  Why or why not?

Learn how to protect your rights!

Posted by admin on May 9, 2008

Do things like what happened in Michigan or what is being talked about in Pennsylvania tick you off? Want to learn how to protect your rights and actually learn what is going on in your area that may potentially take your rights away as a gay or lesbian individual?

Check out our interview with Stacey Sobel, Executive Director of Equality Advocates Pennsylvania. I sat down with Stacey last Tuesday at the Capital Building in Harrisburg after we attended a Senate Commitee Hearing about the SB 1250 bill, “The Marriage Protection” amendment, that they are trying to get passed in Pennsylvania.

I want to urge you to watch this video. Yes, Stacey and I are both located in Pennsylvania and we talked briefly about this bill in Pennsylvani but the majority of the conversation applies to everyone, regardless of where you live. Stacey shared many insights and advice on how you can protect your rights in your states. Please check out the video and let us know what you thought of it!

Once again, I want to take the time to thank Stacey for all that she does for the GLBT community in Pennsylvania! Your work truly is appreciated.

Same-sex domestic partner benefits illegal says Michigan Supreme Court!

Posted by admin on May 9, 2008

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that because of a 2004 amendment to their state constitution that it is illegal for employers to provide benefts to same-sex partners.

This includes health care and other related benefits.

I don’t even live in Michigan and this pisses me off! Seriously people, what is this world coming to when you can’t even give something as simple as HEALTHCARE to the person who you love and share your life with.

Honestly, I can’t see how anyone in Michigan, or this entire country, can think that this is OK. The bottomline is that 2 lesbians in love or 2 gay men in love..their relationship and their lives have ZERO effect on anyone else…..they do not effect anyones lives or relationships………..and the only thing they are portraying in the world is LOVE. Since when has love became such a bad word?

I’d like for every married heterosexual person to take a moment and think about your relationship, think about your struggles, think about your happiness, think about things you argue about, think about things you agree on….think about it……….think about how much you love your wife or husband, think about how you’d do anything for your wife or husband, think about how much you care about your wife or husband……. Everything you just thought about is EXACTLY what gay and lesbian couples think about too.

Now, please look at your husband or wife and imagine how you would feel if you state said that you could NOT provide something as simple as healthcare to your partner!!! How does that feel??

It’s absolutely ridiculous that the people of Michigan or any other state that has such an amendment in their state constitution, would actually ALLOW SUCH A THING TO OCCUR!!!! Each and every one of you that allowed such discrimination into your state constitituion seriously ought to be ashamed of yourselves!

You don’t have to be gay or lesbian to be outraged by your state constitution taking AWAY peoples rights instead of PROTECTING THEM! It’s absolutely pathetic. I just hope that Pennsylvania doesn’t make things even worse in their state with the SB 1250 bill they are trying to pass…….

Do we have anyone from Michigan who would like to comment on this? How about any straight folks? I want to hear what folks have to say…..am I the only non-Michigan person who is this pissed off by this ruling???

GLBT activists rally in Albany, New York

Posted by admin on May 2, 2008

Over 2,000 GLBT folks rallied to urge their legislature to legalize same-sex marriage.

A same-sex marriage bill was passed last year by the Assembly but it died out after the Senate did not consider it.

Keep at it everyone……remember, if you want things to change you MUST speak up about it. Contract your senators, have your friends and family contact your Senators………hook up with GLBT organizations in your local area that can help you figure out what is happening in your state Senate and can tell you how you can make a difference. YOUR VOICE COUNTS!

The Human Rights Campaign have a pretty useful system as far as picking your state, seeing what’s going on there and then being able to TAKE ACTION right away.

Also, check out this pamphlet from the hrc that gives you tips on how you can help yourself and the GLBT community and take action in getting things accomplished.

I also have a video and radio interview coming up in the VERY near future about ways you can help yourself and the GLBT community and really make a difference! Keep checking for that…….
